During the colder months, I find myself always drifting towards darker colours in my wardrobe, and find it a little more difficult to put pieces together that work for the cold climate without sacrificing style. This year, I’m making a point to purchase and wear pieces with brighter colours, textures and patterns to bring a little more life into my cold weather clothing.

Anyone who knows me, knows I love to shop for clothes. I love to see what’s new, what unique designs are out there, and finding the perfect missing piece from my wardrobe (it’s an ever better feeling when I score an amazing deal on a great piece). And sometimes, I love finding pieces that do all the talking on their own like these two- both of these tops can be styled with minimal accessories to add a little touch of glam (or to finish off the look).

Scarf: Aritiza Trumpet-Sleeve Sweater: Forever21 Ruffle Hem Sweater: Old Navy
You can never have too many sweaters in your closet, and I love bringing a pop of colour with an elevated touch into mine. This season, ruffles and big sleeves are trending and I wanted to include them in my closet this season to bring a touch of interest to my more casual basic outfits. I LOVE Aritiza’s scarves, especially for how warm they are and the colour combinations- this scarf is my favourite from their collection this season. It incorporates my favourite colours of mauve and plum that enables me to mix and match with some of my favourite sweaters and coats.

Dress: ASOS
When I say I’m a dress girl, that’s a major understatement; dresses are my favourite thing to wear and purchase because there are so many unique designs available. I found this dress from asos.com (bonus, it’s on major sale!) and I couldn’t resist buying it. It’s a soft-rust velvet midi dress with a front slit and draped open back. I was a little worried about how the dress would stay up with the design of the drape but the dress construction is very well done and you’ll have no worries about wearing this dress. Velvet is another huge trend this season and I wanted a piece that was unique to the trend and that could carry across multiple seasons. By pairing this dress with black heels, or rose gold flats you can easily take this dress to multiple occasions and give it a new life each time by switching up the accessories.

This outfit is one of my top outfits to go to when I’m heading to class in the Fall. A lightweight wool wrap coat, lightweight long sleeve turtleneck, and a pair of booties can take me through a long day of classes to dinner that night with friends. Since Fall can be cooler in the mornings and warmer in the afternoons, these pieces are a great pairing because of how lightweight they are. They’ll keep you warm enough without having to sacrifice your outfit of the day.
I love pulling pieces from my closet and putting them together to create unique outfits, as the great Carrie Bradshaw once said “I like to keep my money where I can see it, hanging in my closet”.
Until Friday, have a great week
